What is the government’s role in helping people during economic hard times?

During economic hard times, the role of the government must adopt to ensure that the public good is looked out for.  It may become necessary that the government change policy and economic goals to re-inforce local economies and to look out for the interests of the middle class.  When a government finds itself in debt or in an economic crisis, it should look to restarting the economy above any other goal.  In many cases, economic recessions can serve as great opportunities for development and reconstruction, through national public works and involvement in local economies.

  1. I agree with you. When our government is in debt it should focus on restarting the economy before other things because if it didn't, it would be hard to move forward and actually accomplish the goals the government is trying to accomplish. --Marie

  2. I agree, the goal of government is to protect the public they serve, which includes economically. I feel that government funded jobs are good, but require more taxes to pay for them. The government should instead find ways to support small businesses so that they can be taxed and create more help for all.

  3. Yep...yep, I agree. I think that's a very good point you make. I mean we know economic crisis is heavy and can destroy us, but we can also use this time to rebuild! And ultimately yeah, the government needs to put people above everything else. I think that the government has become too far removed from us and it needs to get its act together and go local. I mean like how else are our interests represented? We're the people. We need to work with the government and all take responsibility for the economy. We gotta pay our taxes, and they need to help us out with the job scene. Good work dude.
